Sunday, October 12, 2025, proved to be a busy day for our cadets and members. The cadets’ Sunday drill encompassed a review of the structural firefighting SOP, and hands on training with our recently delivered rope rescue equipment. Each cadet had the opportunity to learn basic knots and how to set up a Z-rig (used for improving mechanical advantage in rescue situations). They continue to build knowledge and confidence at every opportunity so that when they reach riding age, they can quickly assimilate into the company.
The rest of the day kept the members busy with several medical runs between Calvert PA201 and NBVFD A18, and a tree down call in the Willows Community. The tree entangled in power and cable lines as it came down, requiring assistance from BGE. Due to the high wind situation caused by the Nor’easter we are experiencing, the NBVFD crew was on scene for an extended period.
