With the frigid temps upon us, here are some reminders to keep you safe:
If you are using space heaters, keep them at least three feet away from all combustibles and turn them off when you leave the room or your residence.
Be sure your smoke alarms and CO alarms are in good working order.
Check on your neighbors if they live alone.
Bundle up if you have to go outside. With windchills in the single digits, frostbite is a reality.
Do not use your oven as an alternative or supplemental heating source.
Be sure your outdoor hose bibs are turned off and drained.
If your pipes tend to freeze, leave an interior faucet dripping to reduce the likelihood of freezing.
If you are using a fireplace, wood stove, or kerosene heater, open a window 3-4” periodically to reduce the accumulation of carbon monoxide. |
