At 5:01pm, on Thursday, May 9, 2024, Calvert County Emergency Communications Center alerted Companies 1, 6, 2, 5, Paramedic Ambulance 219, Anne Arundel Companies 9 and 42, and the North Duty Chief for a structure fire in the 6600blk of Old Bayside Road, Summer City.
Engines 12 and 11, along with Tower 1, Chief 1, and Chief 1A responded. Engine 12 arrived to find a small, one-story, single-family residence with smoke showing from the front door, and occupants attempting extinguishment from the rear deck with a garden hose. A working fire dispatch was requested by Chief 1.
Crews found a small fire in the kitchen that was confined to a cabinet and quickly extinguished. The working fire dispatch was canceled, along with all other units except for Company 1. Crews remained on scene for approximately 20 minutes to ventilate smoke and ensure there was no extension.
The cause of the fire is undetermined. There were no injuries.
The North Beach VFD reminds everyone to check their smoke alarms regularly, exit a structure immediately when a fire occurs, ensure everyone is out of the occupancy, and call 911 from a safe location. Extinguishing efforts should only be attempted from outside the structure and from a location where smoke is not inhaled. |
