For the last two weeks, your North Beach Volunteers have been hard at work building Tower 1 operator proficiency in the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute's Aerial Apparatus Drive/Operator course. Earning an Operator's certification requires passing a series of practical and cognitive tests designed to mimic the challenges of the modern fire ground. From positioning and stabilizing the apparatus, to practicing rescue and ventilation, to flowing water from an elevated master stream, firefighters practiced the full range of operations.
Congratulations to our fellow participants from Calvert County, as well as the Naval District of Washington, Prince George's County, and Charles County.
In addition, thank you to the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department, Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department Station 3, Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, Benedict Volunteer Fire Department, and the Naval District of Washington for bringing apparatus. Being able to learn on a variety of apparatus ensures that firefighters will be able to operate on any fire ground they are called to.
Special thank you to Chiefs Kenny Miller (Calvert County) and Joe Ford (Solomons) for instruction. |
