Today marks the 55th anniversary of NBVFD member Larry Cox’s tragic line of duty death. He was an active and well thought of member of our department.

On Saturday, April 4, 1970, Larry was riding on the back of Engine 101, responding to a cordgrass fire in the wetlands off Fairhaven Road.

As Engine 101 descended a hill, Larry fell from the back step of the truck and suffered a serious head injury. He died three days later after undergoing surgery at Washington Hospital Center.

The fire was deliberately set, but no one was ever held accountable.

We remember his service.
