On Sunday, October 13, 2024, Co. 1 was dispatched mutual aid to Anne Arundel County for a structure fire at the intersection of Emmet Place and Albany Avenue in Rose Haven.

Engine 12 arrived on scene and found neighbors keeping a shed fire in check with a garden hose. The company took its own hydrant, established command and pulled a 1 1/2” hose line to finish extinguishment. Due to the small nature of the fire, the officer on Engine 12 canceled the rest of the assignment.

The cause of the fire was determined to be ashes from a fireplace grill placed too close to combustibles. There were no injuries.

Your NBVFD reminds everyone out there to place ashes in a metal bucket and away from all combustibles. Ashes from your grill and fireplace can remain hot enough to ignite combustibles and flammables for as long as 96 hours (that’s four days).
